December 6, 2011
In front of Palazzo Chigi in Rome (the official residence of Prime Minister of Italy), the Greenpeace activists have unrolled banners that read "The climate change. The policy must change." and "Save the climate in Durban." because Corrado Clini, minister of the italian environment, that day was at the UN conference in Durban, South Africa.

Bicimáquinas are pedal-powered blenders, washing machines and threshing machines, eliminating the need for fuel and electricity. Pumps are also possible, and are capable of extracting 30 liters of water per minute from 30-meter deep wells (electronic pumps reach just to 12 meters).

The idea of these ingenious contraptions emerged from the desire to help the farming families of the San Andrés community. The issue that gave rise to Maya Pedal was the expense and shortage of electricity and fuel in the village.

Carlos and Cesar, creators of Maya Pedal, have achieved an extraordinary result: a worthy project that does not pollute and is extremely fascinating in its involvement of volunteers from around the world who are building a fantastic pedal revolution.

Even in Italy, there are areas where serious daily violations of basic human rights create a need that is unanswered.

Presently I’m working with Emergency (Life Support for Civilian War Victims) on a long-term project to document patients’ stories in Venice, Foggia, Palermo and Siracusa.

In April 2006, Emergency opened a clinic in Palermo (Sicily), to provide free health care to migrants (with or without valid visas) and local residents in need. A second clinic in Marghera (Venice) started its activities in December 2010. Two mobile clinics provide health assistance where it's more needed.

I decided to be involved with this project because I agree with the need to guarantee a free health service for all the people.

Alessi is an italian company that produce daily objects for the home; founded by Giovanni Alessi in 1921 it is still one of the most important and famous companies in the industrial design sector.

The initiative “Oggetti e Progetti. Alessi: storia e futuro di una fabbrica del deisgn italiano” tells the history of the company through the retrospective in The International Design Museum Munich, in Germany, from May through September 19, 2010.

Starting from the sketches of the curator Alessandro Mendini my activity was to explore and realize the navigation of the exhibition content from internet and iPad.

Patricia Awekonimungu is 13 years old and an orphan. She takes care of her 4 little brothers. Her name in Alur language means “I live for God”.

In the hospital Informatici Senza Frontiere has installed a network of computers with internet access and has developed an open source software called "Open Hospital" to digitize and optimize the organization.

This software allows them to do what is standard in the West:
- Manage an archive of the patients (before they used a big paper register and was impossible to find a person's medical history).
- Obtain health statistics (to be sent to the Ugandan Ministry of Health).
- Control medical resources (medicine is hard to find in Uganda).

For more information about this project, contact me or visit the site of Informatici Senza Frontiere.
